Allison Olson: Principal, Patriot Oaks Academy
My name is Allison Olson and I am honored and humbled to have been asked to serve as the new principal at Patriot Oaks Academy.
My husband and I relocated from Denver Colorado just two years ago and we are loving it here. We have four adult children and each has found the perfect spouse for them. We are so blessed and grateful. Our family means the world to us!
My career has given me opportunities to teach ESE students, gifted students, elementary students and middle school students. I have been an administrator in an elementary setting for 10 years now and I want you to know that I love little people! I love helping them figure out how to be a student and how they can learn. I also love middle schoolers! Teaching them was one of the highlights of my education career. I love that they are discovering their passions, their talents and what makes them tick. Kids are just amazing- all ages! I truly believe that a K-8 is perfect as it brings together all the things about education that I have grown to love.
I am here to serve. I commit to you that I will do my best every day to make this school the best it can be for your children. I am about people. I am about relationships. I am about building trust and I am about kids. My decisions are always based on what I feel in my heart is best for children. I am about caring and kindness and compassion. I am about collaboration, teamwork and working with families on behalf their children.
My door is always open- literally. Come in- tell me all about you. I can’t wait!

Hello Charger Family! I’m Jessica Balla and I’m so excited to join everyone at Patriot Oaks this year. I have been an educator in St Johns County for almost 15 years. I am a beach girl at heart and love spending as much time as I possibly can with my family and my boyfriend. I have a toy poodle Dakota who is my everything.
I have a Master’s in Rehabilitation Counseling as well as Master’s in Educational Leadership both from the University of North Florida. Prior to coming to Patriot Oaks Academy, I was the Assistant Principal for Guidance and Curriculum at Pedro Menendez for two years, as well as two years prior to that at Nease High School also as an Assistant Principal. During my tenure in St. Johns County I have been blessed to be able to serve in many capacities for students; as a Registrar, an Instructional Literacy Coach, as well as an ESE and Intensive Reading teacher. My passion and the reason I became an educator is to work with students. More than anything, I enjoy helping them to find a love of literacy and knowledge.
This is my first experience working with students at the K-5 level and I am so excited to learn from the amazing staff here. I am also looking forward to getting to know each of your students and your families this year. Please feel free to call, email, or stop by to see me. It’s going to be a great year! Go Chargers!

Hello Charger Nation!
I am Mrs. Carlson-Bright and I am very excited to be at Patriot Oaks Academy for another year. Over the last three years, I have had the pleasure and privilege of working with amazing people and have learned so much about our students, their families and this community. I am looking forward to building on those relationships and connections this year to be better able to support the students and families of our school.
Prior to arriving at POA, I was at Liberty Pines Academy for almost 8 years. While at this neighboring K-8, I worked as a testing coordinator and taught 6th grade ELA (both Gifted and standard) and 3rd grade Gifted, Inclusion and General Education. Before coming to St Johns County in 2007, I taught 1st and 3rd grade in Palm Beach County, as well as worked as a children’s therapist and children’s case manager. I earned my BS in Early Childhood Education from the University of Central Florida (Go KNIGHTS) and MS in Educational Leadership from the University of West Florida. I also hold a Master of Social Work degree from Florida International University and am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.
I love to travel and spend time with my family, whether that’s at the beach, the pool, hanging at home or enjoying the many wonderful things North Florida has to offer. I am also a huge JAGS fan (that is right….I am part of the Black and Teal nation and love DUUUVAL)). On Sundays during the season, you can find me at the stadium for home games cheering on the team.
I know this year is going to be amazing, and am thrilled to get to serve this great community once again.
