K-5 Resource

About the teacher: Ms. Lawrence graduated from Flagler College. She has been teaching at POA for four years. Ms. Lawrence loves all kinds of art but her favorite activity to do is paint.

About the class: Students study all of the elements of art and principals of design. Students use this knowledge to create 2 & 3 dimensional artwork. Students have a chance to make their own creative choices and develop their inner artists!

About the teachers: Ms. Hudson is in her second year at POA. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Telecommunications from the University of Florida (Go Gators!) and a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Studies from Florida State University.  Mrs. Hudson was a media specialist in Duval County for eleven years before coming to Patriot Oaks Academy.

Ms. Lau has worked at Patriot Oaks since the beginning. This is the third year she has been working in the Media Center and is having so much fun. Her favorite part of being in the Media Center is reading to the students and helping them find the “just right book” for them. Ms. Lau and the students have a great time reading and using their imagination.

Ms. Alexander

About the class: Students will have an opportunity to check out two books when they visit the media center if they have turned in a permission slip and have no outstanding fines.  We encourage students to keep a gallon-size plastic bag in their backpack to help protect library books from moisture.  POA participates in the Sunshine State Young Readers Awards program which provides 15 specially-selected books for grades 3-5 and 15 for grades 6-8.  Students who read at least 3 of the books may receive awards and an opportunity to be part of Battle of the Books.
